A felony drunk driving arrest in western New York last week has led the Buffalo Sabres to place their Director of Player Development, Adam Mair, on administrative leave.

Mair, 46, was charged on Thursday, Sept. 4 with three felonies and six misdemeanors after being involved in a crash at the intersection of Clover Street and Tobey Road in Pittsford, New York, around 4:30 p.m., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The felony DWI charges stem from the fact that three children were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, which triggers Leandra’s Law, said sheriff’s spokesperson Deputy David Marcucci.

Specifically, Mair was charged with three counts of felony DWI under Leandra’s Law and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. He also faces misdemeanor charges of aggravated DWI, DWI, and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, Marcucci said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to deputies.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Mair played for the Sabres from 2002 to 2010. He has been part of the organization’s staff since 2015, including a stint as an assistant coach for the AHL’s Rochester Americans during the 2020–21 season. He currently serves as the Sabres’ Director of Player Development, according to the team’s website.

The Sabres issued a brief statement in response to the arrest:

“We are aware of the situation involving Adam Mair. He has been placed on administrative leave. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Over his professional hockey career, Mair also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and New Jersey Devils.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, Oct. 2 in Pittsford Town Court, according to court records.
