The Ottawa Senators prospects came out short on Sunday night.
The Senators closed out the Prospect Showdown with a 1-1 record after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Fabian Wagner picked up a rebound 1:17 into OT to secure the win for the Jets. The Senators opened the tourney on Saturday with a victory over Toronto Maple Leafs prospects.
The Senators outshot the Jets 37-22 through 60 minutes. Forward Oskar Pettersson and defenceman Jorian Donovan scored for Ottawa in regulation.
Donovan, making his debut in the tourney, tied it up 2-2 with only six seconds left in the second period on the power play. He fired a shot through a crowd with Jamieson Rees providing a screen in front.
Goaltender Vladimir Nikitin, selected No. 207 overall in the 2023 draft, was given the start in this one. He spent last season in the British Columbia Hockey League and finished with 10 stops before leaving the net.
He made two good saves in the second period.
Lucas Beckman, picked in the fourth round in 2025, took over in net midway through the second period. Ben Zloty tied it 1-1 for the Jets on the first shot that Beckman faced after a turnover by the Senators.
Jacob Julien gave the Jets a 2-1 advantage late in the second by tipping a shot by Beckman. That came with Winnipeg on the power play after Gabriel Eliasson made a hit from behind along the boards.
Pettersson, selected No. 72 overall in 2022 by Ottawa, opened the scoring with eight minutes left in the first. He took a pass from Phillippe Daoust and fired it home to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.
Defenceman Carter Yakemchuk, who had two goals and an assist against the Leafs, sat out. The Senators know what he can do, and he will get lots of opportunities in the pre-season.
The Senators will open main camp on Wednesday with medicals.
