Connor McDavid‘s future in Edmonton is up in the air, and according to analysts, it’s potentially blocking another extension from being signed by the Oilers.

The future in Edmonton hinges on Connor McDavid’s potential contract extension, but with the regular season less than a month away, the superstar captain is still yet to put pen to paper.

Unfortunately for the Oilers, the entire situation is no longer just effecting McDavid and the team, but it has put the fanbase on edge, and now, there’s another way this has been negatively effecting things.

McDavid’s contract situation stalling new Walman deal

According to Sportsnet’s Mark Spector, the holdup in signing McDavid is also effecting other potential deals, with Jake Walman‘s new contract extension likely to be held up by the superstar captain.

It’s unclear just how much McDavid’s situation is holding up Walman, or whether it’s simply speculation from Spector based on how things are playing out, but if it takes too long, it could be a major issue for the Oilers moving forward as they look to take the final step towards hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2026.

Last season, Walman made a major impact after being acquired by the San Jose Sharks, with the 29-year old posting 2 goals and 10 points in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Oilers.

Ultimately, it’s more likely than not that GM Stan Bowman and CEO Jeff Jackson can come together and bring not one but both of these players back to the team on multi-year deals, but the longer it takes, the more nervous the Oilers fan base will continue to become over both of their situations.
