First reported by Elliotte Freidman, the Philadelphia Flyers have traded backup goaltender Ivan Fedotov to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus has been searching for depth at the goaltender position, while the Flyers have a surplus, so to speak.

The Flyers are receiving a 2026 6th-round pick from Columbus in exchange for Fedotov. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic first reported the return. The Flyers are not retaining any of Fedotov’s remaining contract.

With Aleksei Kolosov returning, alongside the additions of Dan Vladar and Carson Bjarnason, the Flyers have a bit of a logjam at both the NHL and AHL levels. The general assumption is that the Flyers will run with Sam Ersson and Vladar in the NHL. That would have left Kolosov, Bjarnason, and Fedotov all to compete for time in the AHL.

With Fedtov’s cap hit being the highest of the three at $3.275 million, it makes sense that the Flyers looked to move him first. He also becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Trading Fedotov likely means that the Flyers are confident that Kolosov will remain with the organization this season. It had been rumored that the Flyers’ young Belarusian netminder was set to return home after a disappointing season last year.

Now, the Flyers shed $3.275 million in cap space while also finalizing their goalie rotation for the 2025-26 season.
