The Metropolitan Divisional foes Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets have hooked up with one another on a trade involving goaltender Ivan Fedotov. There’s a goalie trade to report this morning, as the Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired goalie Ivan Fedotov from the Philadelphia Flyers.

Details of the trade have now been released per analyst Chris Johnston; the Flyers acquired a 6th round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft for Fedotov.

Fedotov carries a $3.275M cap hit but is owed just $775,000 in actual salary this season

Incredibly low-cost bet for Columbus

The Blue Jackets needed a backup after they traded Daniil Tarasov to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, and Fedotov will be a low-risk, high-reward acquisition. He was made expendable in Philadelphia owing to the presence of Samuel Ersson along with their summer pickup of former Calgary Flames goaltender Dan Vladar, signed as a free agent to compete for starting time.

Ivan Fedotov struggled with the Flyers after coming over from the KHL

Fedotov, taken with the 188th overall pick by the Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, played years in the KHL after completing his mandatory military service in Russia and made his NHL debut in 2024.

But his numbers were not impressive this year, going 6-13-4 with a 3.29 GAA and .874 SV%, numbers reminiscent of what would have been considered decent in the 1980’s but very below average now.

If he performs decently well with the Blue Jackets this year, he could earn himself another contract for next year.
