GORHAM, Maine — In a thrilling high school field hockey matchup earlier today, Cheverus High School, the defending state champions, showcased their dominance with a decisive 5-0 victory over Gorham High School.
The game started with a bang as Sydney Brunelle scored just one minute into the match, giving Cheverus an early 1-0 lead. The Stags continued their offensive push in the first quarter when senior Joey Pompeo fired a shot on net, which was deflected in by Gracey Cooper, extending the lead to 2-0.
In the second quarter, Gorham’s goalie, Eva Wandell, made a significant stop, but Cheverus was relentless. Freshman Brook Brunelle capitalized on a rebound to score, pushing the Stags’ lead to 3-0.
Cheverus maintained their momentum throughout the game, ultimately securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Gorham.
