Vancouver Canucks Officially Extend AHL Head Coach Manny Malhotra After Winning the Calder Cup

Manny Malhotra has had a storied career as a player in the NHL, especially with the Vancouver Canucks, however the start of his coaching career has been equally as impressive, he won the Calder Cup in his first season as a head coach with the Abbotsford Canucks.
The Canucks decided to extend him through to the 2026-2027 season, as a result of his success.
Calder Cup winner and Head Coach Manny Malhotra extended by the Vancouver Canucks organization.
The Canucks announced today that they will be extending Manny Malhotra until 2027, following his massive success in his first year as head coach.

Malhotra’s first season was capped by a Calder Cup championship, the first in the franchise’s history. He lead the club to an impressive 44-24-2-2 as well.
“«Since joining our organization, Manny has done a great job teaching, communicating with, and developing our players in the American Hockey League,» said Allvin. «His work ethic, passion, and partnership with our NHL staff was a big reason why our group in Abbotsford won a Calder Cup, and why the players we called up to Vancouver during the season fit into our system so well. We are extremely happy to have Manny extend his time with the hockey club.»-Alvin
This was Malhotra’s first season as a head coach in his career, but prior to Abbotsford, he spent four seasons as the Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach, four seasons in the Canucks organization, starting out as a Development Coach and later as an Assistant Coach.
Prior to being a coach Malhotra was a first round draft pick, playing sixteen NHL seasons. He managed to accumulate almost 300 points in his career, but he was best known for his play in the defensive zone and on the face off dot. The Canucks development is in good hands with such an experienced hockey mind like Manny.
