SALT LAKE CITY – Just weeks before the NHL season starts in October, and roughly one year after breaking ground, the new Utah Mammoth practice facility is nearing completion as the doors have officially opened to the team.

With both rookie and training camp taking place at the facility in Sandy, UT, the player and staff areas are now fully operational as the Mammoth begin preparations for their second campaign in the National Hockey League.

A world-class fortress of ice has been constructed for the Utah Mammoth in Sandy.

Located at southeast end of The Shops at South Town, this new NHL training facility has been fully outfitted with the latest and greatest ice surfaces, training and medical facilities, team offices, a spectacular locker room and spaces for visiting teams.

Additionally, player’s will also have access to a fully equipped lounge space, kitchen, gym, recovery pools and a sauna amongst other areas.

“This new Utah Mammoth practice and training facility is one of the most tech forward facilities in all of sports. Not only will it be an epic place for players to train, but it will be an incredible gathering place for the community as well,” said Ryan and Ashley Smith, co-founders of SEG and owners of the Utah Mammoth.

“Every detail of the space was designed with the athlete experience in mind, giving players the ultimate environment to succeed and creating amazing spaces for them to rest and recover. I am so proud of the incredible work done by the SEG team to not only build something so amazing, but to also do it so quickly. This facility represents our commitment to building a championship-caliber environment that positions the Utah Mammoth for long-term success in the NHL while connecting us more deeply to the community.”

“All the weight rooms, the facilities, it’s just such a nice place to come in every morning and know you’ve got the latest, state of the art practice facility at your fingertips,” General Manager Bill Armstrong said.

“With a full kitchen for the players, skills rooms, incredible weight rooms, pools, you name it, recovery rooms. You have it all and that makes us an elite organization.”

Simply put, it’s a dream space for any hockey player as they spend countless hours inside perfecting their game and bodies to compete in the greatest league in the world.

“To be an elite organization you have to have an elite training center and we do and we are very fortunate,” Armstrong added.

“It’s truly a special place…Ryan & Ashley Smith crushed this…I do believe this is the best in the National Hockey League.”

Rather than a ceremonial ribbon cutting, Captain Clayton Keller scored a ceremonial goal to signal the official “soft opening” of the new practice facility.

The Utah Mammoth’s new practice facility is a community asset

By late 2025, early 2026, the new community spaces at the Utah Mammoth’s practice facility will officially be opened to the public.

In addition to both rinks, the community will have access to eight locker rooms, equipment rentals, a team store, pro shop and other open spaces.

Whenever the rinks are not being used by the Mammoth, the ice will be used for youth and amateur skating programs, figure skating and other recreational activities.

“The boys will get off the ice and youth hockey will jump on this ice,” Ryan Smith said.

“It’s one of the coolest things that I’ve learned and seen about hockey…every one of these guys grew up playing youth hockey and they remember that moment because they were that kid…it’s in the culture.”

According to Smith, fans will also be able to watch the Utah Mammoth practices at the new facility.

NHL superstars are taking notice of what’s being built for the Utah Mammoth

While Utah has quickly become a point of conversation around the league as fans continue to realize that Salt Lake City was destined to become a hockey town, even NHL superstars like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Steven Stamkos have taken notice of what the Mammoth are building.

“It is the talk around the league right now,” Utah Mammoth forward Michael Carcone said in a recent interview.

“At our gym in particular, you can see the Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Steven Stamkos talking about the new facilities. They’ve heard about it. They’re excited for it and they’re not even part of the organization.”

A comment that only reaffirms what Stamkos told KSL Sports towards of the end of the season where he recognized the organization’s desire to provide the team with whatever tools they need in order to succeed.

“Ownership is fantastic. I think everyone knows that. They’re willing to do whatever it takes to give the guys the best chance to succeed,” Stamkos said.

With the doors now opened to the Mammoth, rookie camp will commence on Wednesday and Thursday before the prospects travel to Colorado over the weekend to participate in a two-game showcase.

Training camp will then likely begin the middle of next week as the team prepares for their first preseason game on September 21 against the Colorado Avalanche.
