For many people, the loyalty they show to their hairstylist could rival that of a relative, or even a spouse. More often than not, clients will follow a stylist to a new location, as long as it remains geographically convenient.

What happens, however, when the salon itself decides to hang up its shears? There are a lot of people in and around New Bedford that may find out sooner than later..

Wash House Salon to Close After 20 Years

The Wash House Salon in New Bedford announced on their Facebook page that it will close the doors to its Pope’s Island location. “It’s true, we will be closing,” said the social media graphic.  The news is sure to cause some anxious moments for loyal clients, many of whom have been visiting the salon since owners Suzie Jorge and Nellie Barbosa first opened it nearly 20 years ago. The duo was able to harness the experience from their previous salons into a successful business that spanned decades.

According to the Wash House Facebook post, the final day for the salon will be Halloween. “Over these two decades, the salon has given us countless memories that will stay with us forever. You turned our dream into a reality, and we are so grateful,” Suzie and Nellie shared on Facebook.

While the potential closure of the Wash House is bittersweet, the owners emphasized that this isn’t a final goodbye. “We are very happy to tell you where our stylists and lash techs will be working next, once they’ve found a location,” they explained.

To ease the transition, the Wash House Salon will keep its phone line and social media active for several months after the October 31 closing date.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being a part of our story!”
