Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is dealing with an injury and is considered week-to-week, putting his status for the Oct. 9 season-opener against the Utah mammoth in jeopardy.

Head coach Jared Bednar said that if Blackwood is not ready for opening night, he is expected to be ready shortly afterwards.

Bednar also provided updates on forward Logan O’Connor and defenceman Samuel Girard. O’Connor is expected to be ready in November after undergoing offseason hip surgery, while Girard is expected to miss time in training camp but has a chance to be ready for the start of the season.

Blackwood, 28, was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Avalanche mid-way through last season and posted a 22-12-3 record in 37 games to go along with a 2.33 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.

For his career, the Thunder Bay, Ont. native has amassed a 2.96 GAA and .906 save percentage with a 103-103-28 record in 252 games with the Avalanche, Sharks, and New Jersey Devils.

He was originally selected 42nd overall by the Devils in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
