New Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers discusses coming to Carolina on the first day of training camp.
day one, how did it go for you? OK. Uh, it’s been a few days since I skated as well with some traveling issues, um, but Uh, it’s good to be out there with the guys finally and get things started and uh it was a lot of fun. What do you what do you like about this team obviously this is day one, but what do you like about this? Uh, I like the, the compete. I like the, the, the talent they have on this team. They’ve been, uh, in the top for, for many years now. Um, it’s a, it’s a young group. Uh, you can see how well they fit together and how well they they gel together and and that’s something that. I’m looking forward to being a part of. What was it like kind of getting to work some of your potential line mates out there and maybe Sebastian Ajo, Seth Jarvis, and you know, some of these other guys. Um, it was good, obviously. Uh, I think you know in this league, uh, in any league, um, you very rarely have a line that that plays together for, for every shift for a full year. um, so you wanna, you wanna create chemistry with a lot of guys out there and, and with the team that that we have here, um, any, any guy you’re playing with is going to be a pleasure. So, um, I’m excited to, to find the chemistry with, with guys and, uh. That’s gonna be fun. You’re going to get a lot of chances with this team too power play and everything. Does that excite you that that that’s gonna be an opportunity for you? I don’t know. I, I’m you know, I, I, I know. I can do out there and and you know I got to work hard for, for, for every bit of ice like everybody else in this locker room. So, um, you know, you got coach putting things together and, and we got to find ways to to to work it out, um, so yes, I’m excited to, to be here and be part of the team and um. Excited for the challenges ahead. What’s it like coming into this culture, obviously they’ve been a contender here every year for the last 7 years plus. Um, well, it’s fun. I played on a pretty good team in Winnipeg for for the last. You know, 8 years I’d say, um, you know, uh, winning the regular season, uh, last year and, and making it to the uh conference finals and and things like that. So, um, you know, I’m getting older too. I’m, I’m learning every single year and and I’m gonna do everything I can to, to help, um, where I can in this team, uh, and be a part of this team. And hopefully we can make something, something great happen. So, um, I’m excited for that. What was the most appealing thing about choosing the Hurricans? Obviously something tips everybody over the top to make the decision. What was the most appealing thing. You said everyone pretty much has one specific thing. I, I wouldn’t say I have that, you know, I, I kind of looked at the whole picture of, you know, there’s a, there’s a great coach here. There’s a great, great team here that they’ve been building for for years now and with a lot of good young guys, um, a lot of talent, a lot of compete, uh, from what I’ve heard a great culture within the team, um. And you know, the, the city being great, the fans being great, um, so you know, you put all those things together, it creates something pretty special. So, um, that’s why.
