Washington Capitals at Montreal Canadiens

Capitals lead series 2-0

Series odds: Capitals -1200, Canadiens +750

The Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens head north of the border for Game 3 with the Capitals up 2-0.

Dylan Strome opened the scoring and Connor McMichael potted a pair to put the Metropolitan Division champs past the Canadiens 3-1 on Wednesday. Capitals goalie Logan Thompson shined with a 25-save performance.

How can the Canadiens make this a series? There were things to like in Game 2. The Canadiens dominated in the third period, putting 14 shots on Thompson in the third period, and heading back to a home crowd that doesn’t fail on its atmosphere could work in Montreal’s favor.

Carolina Hurricanes at New Jersey Devils

Hurricanes lead series 2-0

Series odds: Hurricanes -3000, Devils +1200

The Carolina Hurricanes have a 2-0 lead over the New Jersey Devils as the series shifts to New Jersey’s Prudential Center for Game 3.

The Hurricanes’ penalty kill outlasted the Devils’ power play in Game 2, giving Carolina all the momentum. The Devils are also depleted by injuries to Jack Hughes, Brenden Dillon, Luke Hughes and Jonas Siegenthaler. Goalies Jacob Markstrom and Frederik Andersen have been pretty even. Carolina had one of the league’s strongest home records at 31-9-1 this season, and Logan Stankoven has fit in well since being moved in the Mikko Rantanen trade.

Can New Jersey survive? Peter Baugh breaks down why they can, but also why they might not.

Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton Oilers

Kings lead series 2-0

Series odds: Kings -475, Oilers +360

The Los Angeles Kings have landed in Edmonton for Game 3.

The Oilers are looking for their first win of the series. The Kings are hoping to build off their home-ice momentum after a 6-2 win on Wednesday that saw four-point performances from Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar.

After three straight first-round losses at the hands of the Oilers, the Kings finally have an opportunity to seize the moment. They’ve been the better team so far and have the Oilers trapped — can they keep it going?

At the same time, how can we ever count out Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl? The Oilers have a lot to improve on after the Game 2 blowout, including their special teams after giving up five power-play goals over the first two games — a stark contrast to last year’s Stanley Cup Final run. But we know McDavid can rise to the moment, and now’s the time.
