According to Pierre LeBrun, Jack Roslovic rejected a contract offer from the Edmonton Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers certainly had an eventful summer this year. After losing to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final for the second year in a row, they made some notable changes to their roster.
The Oilers brought in multiple new players, like Andrew Mangiapane, Isaac Howard, and Curtis Lazar. However, they also had some subtractions, as they traded Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks and Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins. They also lost players like Jeff Skinner, Corey Perry, and Connor Brown in free agency. Thus, there is no question that the Oilers are entering the 2025-26 season with a different-looking roster.
Yet, according to a recent report, the Oilers also tried to bring in the NHL’s top remaining unrestricted free agent (UFA) during this off-season.
Oilers Tried to Sign Jack Roslovic & Got Rejected
In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Oilers made an offer for Jack Roslovic, but the former Carolina Hurricanes forward rejected it.
“I do believe there was an offer from the Edmonton Oilers at some point, but Roslovic, 28, turned it down,” LeBrun reported.
LeBrun also reported that Roslovic switched agents after not taking the contract offer he received from the Oilers.
When looking at the Oilers’ roster, it is understandable that they at least had interest in Roslovic. It is no secret that the Oilers could use some help at the right wing position. This is especially so when noting that star winger Zach Hyman is currently injured. With this, it makes sense that the Oilers pursued Roslovic, who is the best UFA still on the market.
Roslovic Should Find a New Home Soon
While Roslovic has yet to be signed, this should change in the near future. This is because he is a solid middle-six forward who contributes solid secondary scoring and works on the power play. Furthermore, due to his versatility, he can play both center and right wing. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal and should lead to him continuing to receive interest.
Roslovic is also coming off a strong 2024-25 season with the Hurricanes. In 81 games on the season, the Columbus, Ohio native recorded 22 goals and 39 points. He has also recorded at least 34 points on four separate occasions, so teams looking for offense should be calling.
Yet, LeBrun also noted in his latest column for The Athletic that Roslovic is eyeing a multi-year contract rather than a one-year, prove-it deal.
“Roslovic made $2.8 million on a one-year deal in Carolina last season,” LeBrun wrote. “Word is he’d like to get term on his next deal — more than one year. That may not be easy to do this late into things, with teams mostly filled out. But we’ll see.”
With this, it appears that Roslovic is still willing to be patient in order to get the kind of deal he is looking for.
Besides the Oilers, other teams who have been linked to Roslovic this offseason include the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks. It is going to be fascinating to see where he ends up landing. Yet it’s clear that Edmonton at least had interest in the 2015 first-round pick.
