THIS AFTERNOON, SENATORS REJECTED A REPUBLICAN PLAN TO FUND THE GOVERNMENT THROUGH NOVEMBER 21ST. THE VOTE WAS 44 IN FAVOR, 48 AGAINST. IT IS UNCLEAR WHAT STEPS LAWMAKERS WILL TAKE NEXT. THE DEADLINE TO PASS A BILL TO STOP A PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IS MIDNIGHT OCTOBER 1ST TO BREAKING NEWS OUT OF GREENSBORO. NOW A MIRROR ON A GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOL BUS WAS HIT BY A STRAY BULLET THIS AFTERNOON. AND HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR. GREENSBORO POLICE RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF EAST CONE BOULEVARD AND NORTH ELM STREET. THAT WAS AROUND 3:00 THIS AFTERNOON. WE ARE TOLD NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. AND AS A PRECAUTION, PAGE HIGH SCHOOL IN CONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WERE PLACED ON LOCKDOWN. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ALSO ASSISTED WITH DISMISSAL. STUDENTS AT UNC WILMINGTON ARE OUT OF THE CLASSROOM TODAY AFTER AN HOURS LONG CAMPUS LOCKDOWN. LAST NIGHT, THE CHANCELLOR SAYS REPORTS OF A PERSON WITH A GUN ON CAMPUS LAST NIGHT WERE FALSE, ACCORDING TO THE CHANCELLOR, THE SCHOOL RECEIVED A SERIES OF ANONYMOUS REPORTS AND TIPS, AND HUNDREDS OF OFFICERS RESPONDED TO MAKE SURE THE CAMPUS WAS CLEAR AND SECURED. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP’S $15 BILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE NEW YORK TIMES HAS BEEN STRUCK DOWN BY A FEDERAL JUDGE. THE PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE WAS DEFAMED BY FOUR REPORTERS OF THE NEWSPAPER AND THE BOOK PUBLISHER, PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE, BASED ON A BOOK AND THREE ARTICLES PUBLISHED BEFORE THE 2020 ELECTION LAST YEAR.
