New York Rangers superstar forward opens up the team’s disastrous 2024-25 campaign, leaving him to reflected upon his mental health struggles over the season.

Everyone had high expectations for the New York Rangers coming into the 2024-25 season, as many believed they would have been a strong Stanley Cup contender considering the had just won the Presidents Trophy the season before.

Unfortunately that was not the case as they failed to even make this years playoffs. Something which has resulted in the organization to trade away some of their talent, while a lot of their veterans stayed and struggled. One veteran player who was at the center of criticism all season long was Mika Zibanejad.

Now that we are few weeks past the New York Rangers disappointing end, the veteran forward Mika Zibanejad, has now addressed the media and openly admitted that he simple wasn’t good enough, along with stated this had been his toughest season he’s gone through in his NHL career.

“I think the first couple of months up until December, I don’t think it is very good,” stated Zibanejad. “I’m not happy with the season as a whole. I feel like mentally what I went through the first few months was probably the toughest I’ve ever been through in my career in a different way.”

Clearly this has led to a ton of speculation regarding his future with the Rangers, especially after selling his $13 Million West Village property. However, with a cap hit over $8M for the next five years, it wont be easy for the Rangers to move him.

During a recent interview with The Athletic, Zibanejad addressed that he’s not too worried about being moved and that he will remain to stay focus on entering the 2025-26 season in New York.

“I haven’t heard anything. I don’t read anything, I don’t listen to anything. It’s noise.”

“There’s a reason why there are clauses like that. It’s something that was negotiated and earned. My focus has always been here. My focus has never been on anything else.”

It was certainly a rough year for entire New York Rangers organization this past season, so hopefully everyone will put in the work this offseason and come prepared for the 2025-26 campaign.
