  • September 21, 2025

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Dominic James, who served as captain of the University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey team last season, is beginning his professional career, signing a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

James scored 30 points with the Bulldogs last season and played in 111 games with UMD over his four-year career.

His fourteen goals last season were a career best for James, who also scored five power play goals.

The Chicago Blackhawks originally drafted James in the 6th round of the 2022 NHL Draft, but his rights had expired.
