Matthew Schaefer was drafted first overall by the Islanders. Last season, in 17 games for the Erie Otters in the OHL, he had 22 points, including seven goals and 15 assists. He was a +21. He also played in two World Juniors games for Canada, recording a goal and an assist; he finished a plus-two.
