‘I’d Bet Dubas Trades Crosby’: Renowned Analyst Shares Why He Thinks Crosby’s Time in Pittsburg

Longtime Penguins analyst Mark Madden explains why he believes that the possibility of a trade of captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby is growing.
It may have seemed unthinkable as even recently as this time last year, but with each passing season that the Penguins don’t make the playoffs and Crosby moves a year closer to retirement, his desire to win another Stanley Cup before he hangs up the skates grows.
Solely for the efficiency of the rebuild, what would president of hockey ops/GM Kyle Dubas do if he could operate in a vacuum with no ancillary concerns?
Dubas certainly won’t tell us. He didn’t heighten the wall at the front of his suite above the press box by two feet so he could provide a closer look at his M.O.
But I’d bet that Dubas would trade Crosby.
It would also benefit Pittsburgh based on what they could receive in return:
Crosby would fetch a king’s ransom, even at 38. He’s still one of the NHL’s top five players. You’d want a first-round pick, the other team’s top prospect, and an NHL-ready top-six forward or top-four defenseman that’s under 25. That’s at minimum.
Sidney Crosby has been linked to multiple teams
Crosby has been linked to multiple teams, including the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche.
He grew up idolizing the Canadiens as a child, while his good friend and fellow Nova Scotia native Nathan MacKinnon plays for the Avalanche.
Both teams, especially Colorado, would represent a much better chance for Crosby to win a Stanley Cup once more before he retires.
