Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau, who is the highest paid player on the team with an $84 million deal, is facing allegations of laziness following a training camp interview.Just over 3 years ago, the hockey world was stunned when the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers made a blockbuster deal with one another. Matthew Tkachuk was sent from the Flames to the Panthers for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.

Starting his 4th season with the Flames since the blockbuster trade, Huberdeau raised a few eyebrows among fans with his comments on the last day of training camp after he didn’t skate the previous day.

Just woke up, didn’t feel like skating. I just didn’t skate, that’s what happened.

His comments were made with a smile and drew laughter from the reporters gathered around him in the scrum, indicating that he was most likely joking. But that didn’t stop multiple fans from accusing him of being lazy.

Last year, Huberdeau had 62 points (28G, 34A).

The Flames and Panthers couldn’t have gone in more opposite directions

Since the blockbuster trade between the Panthers and Flames, both clubs have gone in opposite directions.

Both Tkachuk and Huberdeau were then signed to massive contract extensions by their new clubs, but the results could not have been more opposite from one another.

Tkachuk and the Panthers have gone to the SCF 3 years in a row, winning the last 2 and becoming the 3rd back to back Cup champions since 2017.

On the other hand, the Flames have yet to return to the playoffs. Their last playoff appearance was 2022, in which they were beaten by the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers, in the WCSF.
