The Anaheim Ducks are still working through the contract situation around star center Mason McTavish. McTavish has remained a restricted free agent since the two sides haven’t been able to come to an agreement.

This has led to all sorts of trade speculation, but to this point, Anaheim has held off on any deals. But it seems that things could be coming to a head with training camp starting back up soon.

Mason McTavish Staying With the Ducks?

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the star center hasn’t asked for a trade and wants to stay with the Ducks. However, the contract situation makes things very interesting moving forward.

“McTavish has not asked for a trade. He wants to remain in Anaheim. And there hasn’t yet been any real offer-sheet talk as far as I can tell. And the Ducks have ample room to match. But if this goes into October, I suppose one never knows,” LeBrun wrote.

McTavish has grown his game every season, and he simply wants to be paid for the production he has shown on the ice. Last season with the Ducks, McTavish put up 22 goals and 30 assists, showing a strong offensive ability.

The playmaking of McTavish is an underrated part of his game, and the Ducks can’t afford to just lose him. Anaheim has placed a high asking price on McTavish in any deal, and it’s in part to avoid actually moving him.

This entire situation remains one of the weirder in recent memory, but the hope is that it can be resolved in some fashion soon. Anaheim doesn’t want this to linger into the new season, and the clock is now ticking on both sides to get something done.
