Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Montreal Canadiens could already be working on a new contract for Calder Trophy winning defenseman Lane Hutson.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson has already shown that he’s one of the brightest young players in the NHL today, and was rewarded for a strong 1st year in the League by winning the Calder Trophy as the best rookie.

He’s coming into the final year of his contract, and per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Canadiens could already be working on a new contract but keeping it in-house.

Elliotte Friedman: Re Lane Hutson: I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re working on this and keeping it out of the public eye – La Poche Bleue (9/18)

Frank Seravalli: Re Lane Hutson extension: “I don’t think that there’s been a ton of progress there, I think they had some initial talks and they are still looking at that; I think the ballpark is in that Brock Faber range [8.5m AAV]” – Bleacher Report

Lane Hutson was the 1st Canadiens ROY since the late Ken Dryden

In winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s best rookie, Hutson became the 1st Canadiens player since the late Ken Dryden to take home the award.

Congratulations, Lane. You were too small to make your mark, but then game after game you showed you weren’t. Your team wasn’t yet ready to compete, then, month after month, you showed you were. Now, you and your team are on your way.I can’t wait to see what happens next. Go Lane Go! Go Habs Go!

-Ken Dryden

Hutson and the Canadiens are going to try and build on their successful year last season by making a return trip to the postseason.
