Just 3:10 into the first frame, Team White got things going, as DeBrincat – with a feed from Patrick Kane – skated into the left circle and let the puck soar over the left shoulder of Cam Talbot for an early 1-0 lead. At the 8:06 mark, Söderblom went five-hole on Talbot, shooting the puck from the high slot and extending the lead for Team White to two.
Team Red had a rebuttal with 6:28 remaining in the frame. William Lagesson fed a no-look pass over to Berggren, who stuffed the puck behind John Gibson, cutting the deficit to one.
Opening the second period, Lombardi snagged the puck from between the legs of Erik Gustafsson and slid it to Söderblom, who found his place in the slot once again and extended Team White’s lead back to two at the 1:40 mark. With 3:37 remaining in the second stanza, Lucas Raymond tapped the puck across the slot to Finnie, who sniped it over the blocker of Michal Postava, allowing Team Red to get back within one.
To cap off the game, the teams took to center ice for a shootout rather than a traditional final period. Though Team Red scored twice from Raymond and Berggren, Team White were able to come out victorious with three goals from Marco Kasper, Andrew Copp and Lombardi.
With training camp now concluded, the Red Wings begin their preseason schedule with a matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
