The Utah Mammoth announced unfortunate health news, as former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Kerfoot won’t play any time soon because of a lower-body injury.
Even though the Utah Mammoth (previously known as the Utah Hockey Club) didn’t make the playoffs in their 1st year playing in Salt Lake City after their relocation from Glendale, AZ, they have already established a healthy fan base in their new city.
They’re going to be trying for a playoff spot in their 2nd year since relocation, but they may have to start the new season shorthanded without a key player.
The Mammoth announced that former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alex Kerfoot has been listed as week to week with a lower body injury.
Kerfoot was taken with the 150th pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils, but never played a game for them. After continuing his college career, he opted against signing with the Devils and instead signed with the Colorado Avalanche in 2017.
He was later traded with Tyson Barrie to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Nazem Kadri, Calle Rosen, and a 3rd round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
He played 4 full years in a Toronto sweater before he signed a 2 year deal with the Arizona Coyotes in 2023.
He has 292 points (98G, 194A) in 605 career NHL games.
Kerfoot was re-signed by Utah this summer
Kerfoot opted against free agency and was instead re-signed by the Mammoth to a 1 year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $3 million.
Last year, he had 28 points (11G, 17A) while playing in all 82 games.
Prior to his NHL career, he played 4 years at Harvard University.
