Some five months after Toronto knocked Ottawa out of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs in the first round, the Sens rallied to beat the Leafs 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night.

Shane Pinto, who tied the game with two minutes to play in regulation, scored at 16 seconds of the extra period, beating Artur Akhtyamov on a breakaway at Scotiabank Arena.
The Ottawa victory came 48 hours after the Leafs beat the Sens in their pre-season opener.
Goaltender Dennis Hildeby shone in the Leafs net, stopping all 23 shots he faced through two periods. Akhtyamov was in goal for Toronto in the third period and was beaten by Fabian Zetterlund for a shorthanded goal.

Pinto tied the game as the Leafs’ Scott Laughton served a cross-checking minor.
Captain Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann scored for the Leafs in the first period. McMann’s goal came on the power play on a give-and-go with rookie Easton Cowan. Matthews was set up by Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
Matias Maccelli, looking to earn a spot on the top line with Matthews and Matthew Knies, assisted on both goals.
Knies departed the game in the third period after he was tripped by Dylan Cozens, but eventually returned.
