Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson will miss at least two weeks with a pulled muscle in his upper-body, head coach Travis Green said Wednesday.
Green said the team is hopeful Batherson will only be out that long, a timeline which could see him return in time for their first regular season game on Oct. 9,
Batherson left Tuesday’s practice early, with Green stating afterwards he thought Batherson had pulled something.
“It’s going to be, I’d say, two weeks. That’s what we’re hoping,” he told reporters Wednesday at Canadian Tire Centre.
Batherson is coming off his third-straight 20-goal campaign, having posted 26 goals and a career-high 68 points in 82 games last season. He added one goal and one assist in six playoff games.
A fourth-round pick of the Senators in 2017, Batherson has 116 goals and 293 points in 391 career games. He is signed through the 2026-27 season at a cap hit of $4.975 million.

Eller close to joining Senators main group
Sens forward Lars Eller said via Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch Wednesday that he had abdominal surgery for an issue that had been lingering since last November. He does not have a firm timeline on when he’ll suit up but did say he’s closing in on a return.
Eller said he had the surgery in New York in late July. It was revealed last week he’d had the procedure and would miss the start of camp.
