A fourth line in name only.
That’s how the Maple Leafs trio of Scott Laughton between Steven Lorentz and Easton Cowan performed in Montreal on Thursday night.
Laughton and Lorentz each scored two goals and the line combined for eight points as the Leafs beat the Canadiens 7-2 in a preseason match at the Bell Centre.
Bobby McMann scored for the second time in two games and Matias Maccelli had two assists for the second game in a row. Defenceman Matt Benning and Ryan Tverberg also scored for the Leafs.

Dennis Hildeby went the distance in the Toronto net and because of a strong defensive game by his teammates, didn’t have much to do. Both of Montreal’s goals were scored on the power play and the Canadiens finished with just 13 shots on goal.
Laughton also had two assists, while Lorentz and Cowan had one each. It was another good performance for Cowan, this time against a Montreal club that dressed its top forwards.
Leafs defenceman Marshall Rifai suffered an upper-body injury in the first period and didn’t return to the game.
The Leafs and Canadiens will meet again on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena as the preseason continues.
