Goaltender Connor Ingram, waived by Utah yesterday, cleared on Friday. He can now be assigned to the AHL. Significant to mention that he carries a $2m cap hit.

Some folks wanted Ingram in Edmonton. While that may or may not have merit on the ice, off the ice there were some barriers to overcome. We shall see if this leads anywhere further on the trade front, where a swap and retention could make more sense for someone. That is something our friend of The Cult of Hockey Ira Cooper has mentioned.

If Connor Ingram were to be a guy to “push” Stuart Skinner as the #1, Ingram’s 2024-25 season (9-8-4, 3.27, .882) did not compare well to Calvin Pickard’s 22-10-1, 2.71, .900 SV% (plus, Pickard went 7-1 in the playoffs). Sure, you can go back to Ingram’s earlier success in Arizona. But in the department of “what have you done for me lately”…

No Edmonton Oilers went on waivers today. And the list of notable names that did is pretty short, to say the least. If goalie’s are really your thing, I guess there is always 6’7 Ivan Fedotov from Philadelphia (he of the .880 SV% in 26 GP). I jest.

No roster moves for the Oilers, either, although players being farmed out who do not require waivers could feasibly be announced later today. We will see…

Meanwhile, the Oilers prepare for the Jets at Rogers Place tonight.

Among the anticipated lineup slots for Edmonton:

Projected Oilers Lineup versus Winnipeg

-Calvin Pickard in goal, backed up by Jonsson

-Adam Henrique centering Andrew Mangiapane and Matt Savoie

-David Tomasek between Ike Howard and Kasperi Kapanen

-Janmark-Philp-Hutson

-Marjala-Samanski-Jarventie

-Nurse-Stecher

-Kulak-Regula

-Dineen-Brown

The key names that I will be watching are Savoie and Howard, yes. But also guys like Tomasek and Philp who may also be on the bubble of either making the big club or not. They may even be competing for the same job.
