Montreal Canadiens defenceman David Reinbacher will miss four weeks with a broken bone in his hand, the team announced.
The 20-year-old sustained the injury in Thursday’s preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third period after logging over 17 minutes of ice time.

Reinbacher has struggled with injuries since being selected fifth overall by the Canadiens in the 2023 NHL Draft. The Hohenems, Austria native, played just 23 games last season (regular season plus playoffs) with the AHL’s Laval Rocket after incurring a knee injury during the 2024-25 preseason.
Reinbacher has recorded four goals and 10 points in 21 regular-season AHL games and added two goals and six points in 13 playoff games. He also represented Austria in 16 games at the senior level, scoring one goal and adding seven assists.
The Canadiens are dealing with multiple injuries on defence as Noah Dobson and Kaiden Guhle are both day-to-day with groin injuries.
