Akira Schmid made 13 saves and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in the preseason on Friday.

The Golden Knights got a goal from Cole Schwindt and Lukas Cormier. Cormier’s goal was a power play goal that broke a 1-1 tie in the third period.

Dmitry Orlov scored his first unofficial goal for the Sharks in the second period. Yaroslav Askarov made 27 saves.

“We probably took a step back,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said. “But the world’s not coming to an end. We’ve got to move forward. It’s training camp. Learn from it. Get better on Sunday.”

The Sharks’ next practice will be on Sunday.

Ethan Cardwell stood out as a player for the Sharks on Friday. The winger killed penalties and had multiple chances to score all night. He skated on a line with Alexander Wennberg and Quentin Musty in the first two periods. William Eklund swapped places with Musty in the third.

“I’d like to have those back, especially the ones off the post [and] the breakaway,” Cardwell said. “It’s preseason, so we’ll try to save them for the regular season. It would have been nice to get them for sure.”

Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson each had their fair share of good plays for the San Jose Sharks, but the team was ultimately outplayed by a relatively minor league version of the Golden Knights.
