Brady Tkachuk has become a cornerstone player for the Ottawa Senators since he joined the franchise in 2018. Despite the team’s struggles to reach the playoffs during most of his tenure, the left winger’s consistent leadership quickly earned him the captaincy.
But recent rumors suggest that several teams are interested in acquiring the forward, with one insider reportedly identifying the Dallas Stars as a prime candidate. This speculation didn’t go unnoticed by Ottawa fans, who quickly criticized the insider’s report.
Senators Fans Are Livid at Insider for Suggesting a Brady Tkachuk Trade
Tkachuk has been a key part of the Senators’ roster for the last few years and, with gaining the captain’s C in 2021, he quickly became a fan favorite in the city. However, while the forward has shown his loyalty to the franchise, trade rumors have continued to bubble up.
And on the latest episode of “The Sheet with Jeff Marek,” Marek, along with insider Greg Wyshynski, mentioned that the Stars might be after Tkachuk. “If Brady Tkachuk were ever available… I think they’d move heaven and earth,” Marek told Wyshynski.
However, while Marek argued that GM Jim Nill wanted more tough and robust guys in his locker room, like Tkachuk and the Panthers’ Sam Bennett, the fans weren’t letting this one slide. One fan wrote, “Must’ve been a slow day, fellas 😂🤡🤡.”
That fan believes this is simply an attempt to generate podcast buzz and that the rumors lack any real substance. Meanwhile, another fan found it flattering that other GMs covet their captain but questioned why Dallas would realistically pursue him.
“I understand that this type of commentary is meant to be complimentary to Brady; every GM would love him on their side. But…🥱,” they wrote. Tkachuk’s robust playing style and his explosive temperament have made him a hot commodity across the league.
But so far, there have been no indications of the forward wanting any kind of trade. To complement this, one fan wrote, “Brady would say it himself that this has gotten ridiculous and annoying.” The user believes that nowadays, trade reports are being generated over the slightest rumors.
Another fan took direct aim at Marek himself, expressing disappointment with the respected insider’s willingness to fuel trade speculation. “Expected better from @JeffMarek,” they posted. The fan argued that established voices like Marek have a responsibility not to fuel baseless trade rumors.
Some fans, however, questioned Marek and other insiders’ intent as they reported on these trade rumors. “The media’s constant need for clicks has reduced hockey journalism to ‘if [insert good player’s name] is available, you have to think that [team] would be very interested,’” a user wrote.
The fans believe that nowadays, insiders don’t justify the rumors and simply report on them to generate buzz for their podcasts and platforms. But the fans are ready to fact-check these claims, and Marek’s latest comments just proved that.
