VERO BEACH − Hundreds of hockey fans stopped by Walking Tree Brewery to see the Stanley Cup on display ahead of the Oct. 7 start of the 2025-2026 NHL hockey season.

The Florida Panthers were back-to-back NHL champions in 2024 and 2025. The trophy was on the last leg of a tour around the Broward County area, where the team is based, when it made a stop Sept. 25 in Vero Beach.

“We are not really known for being a sports-centric kind of place, so … this is a first time for us,” said Brooke Malone, co-owner along with Mike Malone of Walking Tree Brewery. “This is amazing.”

Shortly before 5 p.m., a line of people waiting for pictures with the trophy stretched out of the brewery and its parking lot overflowed with vehicles.

“And I think it’s just going to get busier from here,” said Mike Malone. “It’s not even 5 o’clock yet so people aren’t off work.”

The crowd grew into what looked like the hundreds after 5 p.m.

No purchase was necessary to get in line and take a picture with the trophy which was scheduled to be on display until 7:30 p.m.

A friend of the brewery owners who works with the Florida Panthers arranged to have the trophy shown there after it had been at several stops around Vero Beach earlier that day.

“This is a tour for the last few days before the ring ceremony,” said Mario Della-Savia, a traveler, or Keeper of the Cup, with the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

The 2025 ring ceremony is Oct. 7 with the banner-raising event starting at 7 p.m. and broadcast on a few networks.

“The Florida Panthers are the two-time Stanley Cup champions and they are honored with having the Stanley Cup for over 100 days in their hometown,” said Della-Savia. “It just happened that we have finished the tour with the players and now we’re finishing up with any corporate sponsors that the Florida Panthers may have, as well as community, government agencies, police and fire.”
