After another preseason game against the Maple Leafs, this time live from Toronto, the Montreal Canadiens have just announced roster cuts.

Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, Martin St-Louis, and their associates have therefore made their first major decisions of the season.

First major wave of cuts announced by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens

Here’s an excerpt from the Canadiens’ official announcement:

“TORONTO – The Canadiens announced multiple roster moves at training camp on Saturday.

Twenty-four players will join Laval Rocket training camp, which opens on Tuesday, September 30. Among them are 14 forwards, six defensemen and four goaltenders:”

So, 24 names have been cut and removed from the race to start the season in Montreal, including three important ones.

I’m surprised to see that Roy and Fowler were cut immediately (in the first wave), and the same goes for Rohrer, who had been one of the surprises of this 2025 training camp – but their time will come.

“Jacob Fowler, Joshua Roy, Filip Mesar and Luke Tuch among 24 players sent to Laval

Vinzenz Rohrer loaned back to Zurich.”

The good news is that this first big wave of cuts shows that the start of the regular season is getting closer and closer!

It’s becoming more serious and concrete.

“Joshua Roy, Jacob Fowler, Filip Mesar, Tyler Thorpe & Jared Davidson among the players cut from Habs training camp and sent back to Laval.

Vinzenz Rohrer will join the Zurich Lions in the Swiss National League.”

And in your opinion, which name is the most surprising among this list of players cut?
