Dalton Bancroft was signed by the Boston Bruins after a solid career at Cornell University. Bancroft’s ability to shoot the puck is a big reason for his chance at a potential NHL career. Bancroft showed that ability Saturday night in Philadelphia with two goals in preseason action.

Bancroft quickly made an impact, scoring twice in the second period to help the Bruins to a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Bancroft has been learning a lot since joining the Bruins organization.

“I’ve just kind of tried to be a sponge and learn from all the older guys and take in as much as I can,” Bancroft said. “You don’t know if you’re going to get to this point or not, so it’s just been a really cool experience.”

Bancroft was undrafted and signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Bruins in April after three seasons at Cornell. The forward played five games in the AHL with Providence to finish the year and had one goal. Now, Bancroft is trying to show he belongs in the NHL.

Bancroft will more than likely begin the season at Providence again. But after Saturday’s performance, the Bruins might have found a diamond in the rough on the college free agent market.
