The Montreal Canadiens could be looking to shake up their forward group, and it appears that Boston Bruins’ Pavel Zacha is reportedly on their radar.

According to a league source who spoke with RG Media, Montreal has recently inquired about the Bruins’ versatile forward.

“The Canadiens definitely have interest in Zacha and have inquired about him, but they’re not the only team,” the source said to RG. “Several teams — I’m told the Flames are one — continue to express interest in him.”

Zacha has quietly developed into a dependable two-way player for Boston. After being acquired from the New Jersey Devils in 2022, he put up career-best numbers and proved he can play both center and wing. With the Bruins navigating life after Patrice Bergeron, David Krejčí and Brad Marchand, Zacha’s value has only grown. But that also makes him a tough player to pry away.

For the Canadiens, the interest makes sense. Montreal’s rebuild has seen an influx of young forwards, but the roster still lacks proven, prime-age talent down the middle. Adding a player like Zacha, who is 27 years old, experienced, defensively responsible, and capable of producing 45–50 points a season, could help bridge the gap between the Habs’ prospects and established NHL stars.

The question, of course, is price. Boston isn’t expected to give Zacha away, and with more than one team circling, the market could heat up quickly. The Canadiens have draft capital and young players to make a deal work, but Habs general manager Kent Hughes has been patient about accelerating the rebuild. Whether he’s willing to spend significant assets on a player like Zacha remains to be seen.

For now, what’s clear is that the Canadiens are exploring ways to add proven NHL forwards and Zacha’s name is officially on their list. But the Flames could also enter the mix.

Stay tuned.
