An iconic sports announcer known for calling both Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League has died.
A longtime sports announcer, known for his coverage of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings, has died. Ray Lane, a longtime sportscaster in Detroit, Michigan, has passed away, FOX 2 confirmed. The longtime broadcaster died on Saturday, September 27.

Lane previously called games for Michigan State, Michigan, the University of Detroit and the Cincinnati Reds. Lane, born in Detroit, spent nearly his entire life in Michigan. He was best known for his time covering the Red Wings and Tigers.

Lane was married for more than 50 years. He and his wife, Carolyn, met in high school. At the time of her death, they had three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
