Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was cleared for contact and shed his non-contact jersey at practice on Monday morning.
It’s the first time since the opening day of training camp that the 40-year-old has been cleared for contact as he recovered from a lower-body injury.

Ovechkin scored 44 goals and 73 points in 65 games last year as he broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL scoring record. He enters the 2025-26 season three goals away from 900.
Forward Sonny Milano missed Monday’s practice with an upper-body injury, although it’s not related to the injury that kept him out for most of last season, NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti reports.
