Sept. 30 (UPI) — The Minnesota Wild signed winger Kirill Kaprizov to a $136 million extension, setting an NHL record for total money and average value, the team announced Tuesday.

The eight-year deal ties Kaprizov to the Wild through the 2033-34 season. The 28-year-old Russian will make an average of $17 million per season.

Kaprizov, the 2020-21 Calder Memorial Trophy winner, logged 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points over 41 games in 2024-25, when he missed time because of a lower-body injury.

He logged a career-high 108 points — from 47 goals and 61 assists — over 81 appearances in 2021-22. Kaprizov totaled 46 goals and 50 assists for 96 points over 75 appearances in 2023-24.

The Wild went 45-30-7 last season, but lost in the first round of the NHL playoffs. They haven’t advanced to the second round since 2014-15.
