Nashville ranks 24th in the league in total valuation. The highest valuation is the Toronto Maple Leafs at $4.25 billion, while the lowest is the Columbus Blue Jackets at $1.3 billion. The NHL average is $2.1 billion.
Sportico states its evaluation calculates publicly available information and financial records, and the information is vetted with multiple team owners, team financial and operating officers, media relations personnel and former team executives.
Former Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam is now the majority owner of the Predators, which took effect on July 1. He owns 57% of the franchise, purchasing it from Herb Fritch, who is now a minority owner.
The Predators were officially granted entry into the NHL in 1996, when Craig Leopold paid the $80 million franchise fee to establish a new hockey franchise in Nashville. The team’s first season in operation was in 1998 with David Poile as general manager and Barry Trotz as coach.
