The Nashville Predators are in need of some talent and depth, and on Wednesday, they officially claimed a former first-round pick in Tyson Jost.NHL waivers have been wild as of late, and on Tuesday, former first-round pick Tyson Jost headlined a group of 22 players that were waived by their teams ahead of the 2025/26 regular season.
After splitting time with the Carolina Hurricanes and their AHL affiliate a season ago, Jost is now moving on, as it comes as no surprise that a team wanted to take a chance on the cheap, veteran centre with plenty of experience.
Nashville Claim Jost on Waivers
On Wednesday, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that it was the Nashville Predators that claimed Jost, as they look to add to their depth ahead of the new season, something they struggled with in a big way last year.
In Jost, the Predators get a 27-year old with 495 games of NHL experience under his belt, and with unproven names in their 2, 3 and 4C roles, it’s safe to say that Jost will have a very good shot at battling for a spot on this roster when the regular season rolls around.
In those 495 games, Jost has tallied 61 goals and 149 points, so while he hasn’t turned into a star, he’s more than capable of contributing, something the Predators will need plenty of in 2025/26.
Beyond Jost, every other one of the 22 players placed on waivers have officially cleared, and with the NHL now less than a week away from returning, we’re going to see more players waived soon as teams look to nail down their opening night roster.
