The regular season is less than a week away, and after some big waiver lists in recent days, just under 40 players have found themselves waived on Wednesday.
After a long, slow summer, the NHL’s regular season is almost upon us, and over the past week, teams have started to trim down their roster as they look to once again chase the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.
As a result, we’ve seen over 100 players placed on waivers in the past week, including 22 on Tuesday, a group headlined by two former first-round picks in Tyson Jost and Oskar Olausson.
38 new names on the NHL’s waivers on Wednesday
Now on Wednesday, we’ve seen the most in a single day yet this off-season, as 38 players were placed on waivers, and with the NHL season drawing ever closer, teams are getting close to getting their roster to the right number.
Among those 38 are former first-round picks like Jakob Pelletier, as well as big names such as McKenzie Entwhistle, Akil Thomas and Phoenix Copley, with the Los Angeles Kings highlighting this group, officially waiving 10 players in one massive move.
To this point, we’ve not seen very many players claimed on waivers, but with so much young talent, there’s a very good chance that at least one, if not two or three players from this group find themselves claimed on Thursday.
The NHL’s regular season begins next Tuesday with some blockbuster showdowns, and even after 38 players were waived on Wednesday, expect more to come in the days ahead as teams finalize their roster for the campaign ahead.
