Welcome to October, folks!

It certainly feels like it in the Boston area, with chilly morning temperatures, a bit of a breeze, and some playoff baseball in the news.

If you’re a Red Sox fan, you’re in good spirits this morning after their 3-1 win over the Yankees last night.

As someone who has drifted away from baseball fandom in recent years, last night’s game was a good reminder of how tense playoff baseball can be.

Anyways, on to more relevant topics for this audience: the Bruins are free from preseason game action until Thursday night, when they’ll play the Capitals in DC in the penultimate game of the preseason.

They’ll be back on the ice at Warrior Arena for two split-squad practices today, one at 10 AM and one at 11:30 AM.

It seems likely that they’ll be another round of cuts at some point today, as there’s still a bit of roster trimming to do before Opening Night.

For guys on the bubble, Thursday’s game with the Capitals looms large as a last best chance to show something to Marco Sturm and Co.

Elsewhere around the league:

Other than that, enjoy this last few days of relative calm — the regular season starts one week from today.

What else is on tap for the day?
