As Shakespeare once asked “What’s in a name?” Well, for the Providence Bruins, food is in a fun and hilarious new name coming this fall.

The American Hockey League affiliate team to the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins, the P-Bruins are gearing up for a new season with the announcement of several theme nights.

Their first few home games will feature Scooby Doo Halloween events, a Top Gun day and a few new names.

When former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci brought the P-Bruins back to Rhode Island in 1992, my family was psyched. As huge hockey fans, having a local team we could see live was a big deal and we were soon season ticket holders.

Though I spent a lot of time in the 90s watching the baby Bruins play, I never really thought much of the theme nights as a kid.

Now as an adult, I can see just how fun they are.

Which is why I absolutely love the upcoming ‘rebrand nights’ being held at the AMP when the 2025-2026 season kicks off. Though it’s the name change on October 18 I love the most.

Celebrating Rhode Island’s Italian-American Roots

That is the night the team will pay tribute to Rhode Island’s large Italian-American population (and perhaps their proximity to Federal Hill), with the new name the Providence Fight Parms.

The team will rep the new name and wear the special Fighting Parm jerseys with the temporary mascot on them for the October 18 game against the Hartford Wolfpack.

Fans can buy special tickets packages for this home game at the AMP that includes a chance to win one of 10 t-shirt prize packs with Fighting Parm logo shirts.

I personally hope they decide to sell more, because I would totally rock a Fighting Parm shirt for the team. They clearly put a lot of thought into this logo, so hopefully it gets used again in the P-Bruins future.

 

Now only one question remains, is it a chicken parm or an eggplant parm? You decide I guess.
