The Calgary Flames announced today that they have extended Head Coach Ryan Huska to a two-year contract extension.
Huska will now be under contract through the 2027–28 season.
The Flames’ head coach has led the club to a 79–66–19 record in two seasons with the Flames, missing the playoffs in both seasons.
Last season, Huska led the Flames to finish just one point shy of qualifying for the playoffs, finishing the season with 96 points. Â
Huska’s coaching history
Huska has coached in the Flames organization since the 2014–15 season, joining the Adirondack Flames that year and continuing as coach in their move to Stockton.
After four seasons coaching the Flames’ farm team, Huska was promoted to the NHL as an assistant coach in 2018 and transitioned to the head coach position in 2023.
Other connections to the Flames include his junior playing career alongside Jarome Iginla for the Kamloops Blazers and serving as head coach of the Kelowna Rockets for seven seasons, where he led current captain Mikael Backlund.
What’s next for Huska?Â
After just missing last year’s playoffs, Huska will look to get the Flames back into the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
His new contract will take him into the first year of the Flames’ new arena, Scotia Place, in 2027.
The Flames will hit the ice on the road to start the season against Edmonton on October 8, marking the beginning of year three under Huska.
