The Anaheim Ducks have set a new franchise record by signing defenseman Jackson LaCombe to an eight-year, $72 million contract extension, announced on Thursday. Boasting a $9 million average annual value (AAV), this deal stands as the richest in Ducks’ history, solidifying LaCombe’s role as the backbone of Anaheim’s rebuilding efforts.
Jackson LaCombe’s form
At just 24, Jackson LaCombe has established himself as Anaheim’s premier defenseman. Last season, he notched an impressive 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists) across 75 games, placing third on the team with 129 blocks and leading all skaters with an average ice time of 22:18 per game. His seamless partnership with veteran Radko Gudas underscored his ability to anchor the defense while adding offensive spark.
“Today is an exciting day for my family, and I am grateful to the organization for their belief in me,” LaCombe said. “It was an easy decision for me to commit my future to the Ducks and Orange County. We are building something special here, and I am excited to do everything I can to help this team win.”
Details about the contract
The contract, effective from the 2026-27 season through 2033-34, comes as LaCombe nears the end of his current two-year bridge deal ($925,000 AAV). The $9 million AAV aligns with the recent seven-year, $63 million contract signed by New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes, though LaCombe’s deal extends a year longer, marking a historic milestone for the Ducks.
Jackson LaCombe’s international stardom
Jackson LaCombe’s impact extends beyond the NHL. The Minnesota native played a pivotal role in the US men’s hockey team’s gold-medal triumph at the 2025 World Championships, marking the nation’s first win in 92 years. His standout performance earned him a spot at the US Olympic orientation camp, making him a strong candidate for the 2026 Olympic roster in Italy.
