Blue Jackets unveil 25th anniversary logo

The Blue Jackets say they are celebrating their 25th anniversary with, among other things, a logo that honors a quarter-century of team history.

The rock band O.A.R. will perform on Oct. 3 at KEMBA Live! to celebrate the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 25th NHL season.The band will also participate in a charity hockey game on Oct. 5 with former Blue Jackets players at the OhioHealth Ice Haus.

In addition to having deep roots at The Ohio State University, the rock band O.A.R. seems to have an affinity for the local sports scene.

A five-man group featuring three OSU alumni, O.A.R. has visited Columbus numerous times, including twice earlier this year.

In March, they performed a pre-game show at the NHL Stadium Series showdown between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings. (The Jackets won 5-3.) They returned in August to play the Pelotonia opening ceremony.

Now, they’re coming back to celebrate the Blue Jackets’ 25th National Hockey League season on Oct. 3 at KEMBA Live!, 405 Neil Ave. Gates open at 6 p.m. for the outdoor, rain or shine show.

Tickets for cost $64.23 for lawn general admission and $158.37 for VIP packages. A limited number of tickets are still available at bit.ly/4pSZELF.

O.A.R. is best known for the hit Shattered (Turn the Car Around),” as well as the songs “This Town” and “That Was a Crazy Game of Poker.”

The Orphan The Poet, a Columbus alt-rock duo, will be the special guest. The pair has appeared on bills including Firefly Music Festival, Riotfest and Summerfest, and enjoyed airplay SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, WNCI in Columbus, KROQ in Los Angeles, and BBC’s Radio1.

The Blue Jackets and O.A.R. will continue their partnership on Oct. 5, when the rockers themselves take to the ice for a worthy cause, joined by NHL athletes including former Blue Jackets Rick Nash, Jody Shelley and R.J. Umberger.

Doors are scheduled to open at 12:30 p.m. at the OhioHealth Ice Haus, 200 W. Nationwide Blvd., with the puck dropping at 1:30 p.m. Open to all ages, the event will also feature fan activities and in-game entertainment.

Tickets cost $26.25 at bit.ly/3IOTmw1. Proceeds from the event will benefit The John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation.
