The Red Wings seem to be impressively building their overall game heading into the regular season.

Third-period goals from Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat and Emmitt Finnie Thursday sent the Wings to a 3-1 victory in Toronto over the Maple Leafs.

DeBrincat broke a 1-1 tie, snapping a loose puck to the side of goaltender Anthony Stolarz at 12 minutes, 28 seconds, after getting a pass through the slot from Michael Brandsegg-Nygard.

Finnie, like Brandsegg-Nygard an impressive rookie during this preseason, scored an empty-net goal at 18:37.

Larkin tied the game at 1-1 at 5:04 of the third period, putting back a rebound past Stolarz after a shot from Ben Chiarot from the top of the slot.

Goaltender Cam Talbot made 20 saves for the victory.

Auston Matthews opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 2:08 of the first period. John Tavares got a loose puck in the slot and found Matthews inside the low circle, Matthews one timing a shot past Talbot.

The Wings conclude the preseason Saturday hosting Toronto. They open the regular season Oct. 9 at Little Caesars Arena against Montreal.
