CRANBERRY — Pittsburgh Penguins winger Bryan Rust will miss the start of the NHL regular season.
Thursday morning, the Penguins announced that Rust is out at least two weeks with a lower-body injury. Rust left the early practice on Wednesday morning, but coach Dan Muse didn’t have an update before the team left for Buffalo, their sixth preseason game.
Last season, Rust set a career high with 31 goals. His name has appeared in trade speculation since the end of his no-trade clause on July 1, but Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas set a “sky-high” price.
Defenseman Jack St. Ivany was injured in the first period on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres. He suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot. He is still being evaluated and won’t practice Thursday.
UPDATE: The Penguins announced St. Ivany will miss six weeks.
Penguins winger Noel Acciari played Wednesday against Buffalo, his first preseason action after suffering a core muscle injury in August. Rutger McGroarty was also seen around the Penguins’ practice facility Thursday in workout gear.
