Good morning, folks. We’re just one week out from Opening Night– er, Knight– for the Vegas Golden Knights. On Monday, Kirill Kaprizov signed a record-breaking contract that could have a domino effect on a future Eichel extension. The Golden Knights played a preseason game last night; tonight, they’ll play another.

Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, the first-ever Golden Knights draft pick, Cody Glass, appears to have made the New Jersey Devils’ roster. Todd McLellan had some strong words for the veterans on the Detroit Red Wings. The Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators spark up a rivalry with a vengeance, and the Winnipeg Jets may come to regret not getting a second-line center.

Hockey season is back, folks. There’s a nip to the air– ha. Not really. We’re in Las Vegas, after all. But according to the weather app, the temperature dropped to 61°F last night, which may be the coolest it’s been since I moved here in July. I think I could get used to this whole ‘mild climate’ thing. I’m not in Kansas anymore, and I’m not in Philadelphia, either.

Let’s talk hockey.

Golden Knights News

The first domino on the 2026 Free Agent board has fallen. On Monday, Kirill Kaprizov signed a record-breaking deal with the Minnesota Wild. Here’s what that means for Jack Eichel and the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights iced a fairly young preseason roster on Monday night against the Colorado Avalanche. I’d hazard a guess that only three or four of those players will see NHL action this season. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t important observations to be made; as always, I had seven.

NHL News, Rumors, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic ($): The kids are alright, but the old guard has the most fun. Here’s a list of the NHL’s most importantskaters over 35.

Sportsnet: Here’s a must-read before all fantasy hockey drafts. Adam Vingan compiles a list of five candidates for regression in 2025.

Sportsnet: The Winnipeg Jets didn’t exactly address their need for a second-line center this past offseason. And last night, both Jonathan Toews and Vladislav Namestnikov left the game against the Minnesota Wild with injuries and didn’t return.

New Jersey Hockey Now: First-ever Golden Knights draft pick Cody Glass never lived up to his sixth-overall potential. He has, however, found himself a new home with the Devils. He’s certain to make the final roster– the only question is ifhe’ll center their third line or their fourth.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings haven’t made the playoffs in nine years. And if Todd McLellan’s words to his veterans don’t sink in, the postseason drought very well hit the decade mark.

Montreal Hockey Now: Today’s NHL rivalries just don’t have the same hatred that they did in the ’80s and ’90s. Hell, they don’t even have the same hatred that the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks had some 15-odd years ago. But watching the Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators last night gave me hope. Maybe, just maybe, true, unbridled hatred will return to the NHL once more.
