The Boston Bruins made their final cuts on Friday, and as Head Coach Marco Sturm said, “they were all disappointed, some more than others”. The list of players who were placed on waivers were center Patrick Brown, defenseman Michael Callahan, center Georgii Merkulov, defenseman Victor Soderstrom, and forward Riley Tufte. All of those players would have to pass through waivers to remain with the organization.

Four other players were sent to Providence Bruins training camp in the American Hockey League. Defenseman Frederic Brunet and forwards Fabian Lysell, Riley Duran, and Brett Harrison all headed to the Bruins’ AHL affiliate.
Merkulov was signed as a college free agent in 2022 and scored 30 goals for Providence last season. However, in limited time with the NHL team, Merkulov has shown inconsistent play and has been unable to sustain a roster spot. Any team has the ability to sign the Russian forward now. Lysell was the 2021 first round draft pick of the Bruins and has also struggled to maintain residency in Boston. The talented winger’s play was underwhelming in the preseason.
The Bruins will play another preseason game on Saturday at home against the New York Rangers.
