A new report reveals what it will take for Detroit Red Wings’ general manager, Steve Yzerman, to secure his position within the organization, it won’t be easy.

The Detroit Red Wings are on the verge of making it 10 straight seasons without making the Stanley Cup playoffs, making fans, players, and perhaps even higher ups unhappy.

There’s one silver lining, and it’s injuries surrounding the Atlantic Division, including Aleksander Barkov’s injury, that could help Yzerman save his job by getting back into the playoffs.

Atalntic Division injuries could save Yzerman’s job, bring Red Wings back into the playoffs

In a recent article published by Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report, Steve Yzerman has the potential to save his job, as well as the Red Wings’ upcoming postseason.

“After watching the Panthers lose Aleksander Barkov for the season and Matthew Tkachuk for a few months following surgery, along with Mitch Marner leaving Toronto, the Atlantic Division may finally be open enough for Detroit to get back to the playoffs. If not, Detroit ownership may be forced to take a long look in the mirror and consider letting a team legend go.”

At this time, some major talents have undergone unfortunate injuries, leaving there to be some room for the Detroit Red Wings to successfully pursuit postseason contention.

Last season, the Red Wings were inches away from breaking their playoff absence streak.

Meaning, if minimal change erupts in Detroit, this Original Six franchise might just be capable of making it back into contention.

If not, it is uncertain how long Yzerman will be the face of this franchise.

Do you think the Detroit Red Wings have a shot at postseason this year?
